Neurological Surgery Fellowship Criteria

The appointment of other individuals for special training or education, such as fellows, must not dilute or detract from the educational opportunities of regularly appointed residents. Accordingly, programs must notify the RRC when they sponsor or participate in any clinical fellowships within institutions participating in the program before the commencement of such training and at each subsequent review of the program. The following documentation must be provided to the RC describing the fellowship's relationship to and impact on the residency.

  1. Type and scope of fellowship (eg, vascular, spine, etc.)
  2. Fellowship director (describe credentials)
  3. Structure and organization (Neurosurgery or combined with orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, etc.)
  4. Number of candidates planned for admission each year
  5. Length of training (clinical/research months)
  6. Statement describing impact on the neurosurgical residents in training
  7. Statement describing the estimated number of operative procedures for each fellow
  8. Anticipated start date
