Common Citation in Subspecialties of Internal Medicine

The sponsoring institution's graduate medical education committee does not regularly review the residency training program in relation to its compliance with institutional policies and the relevant program requirements. The residency does not enroll at all times at least two residents to ensure peer interaction among internal medicine subspecialty residents and to enhance the educational experience.

All major dimensions of the curriculum such as rotations and assignments, are not structured educational experiences for which written goals and objectives, a defined method of teaching, and explicit method of evaluation are documented.

All full-time faculty members do not engage actively in research and in the presentation and publication of scientific studies. The Committee judged that the recent productivity by the faculty such as in peer-reviewed journals, was inadequate.

The program does not provide evidence that experience in continuing care occurs at least one half-day each week throughout the training program. Residents do not follow a panel of patients for the length of their training.

The program does not provide evidence that at a minimum, the residency provides at least one clinical conference, one basic science conference, one literature review conference (journal club) and one research conference each month.

The program does not ensure meaningful, supervised research experience with appropriate protected time for each resident. The Committee judged that the recent productivity by the residents such as in peer-reviewed journals, was inadequate.

Attending do not review residents´ performances with them upon completion of each rotation period.

The program does not provide evidence that at least semiannually, the program provides to all residents structured feedback on performance, including appropriate counseling and other necessary remedial effort.

The program does not provide evidence that the residency has subspecialty residents at least annually evaluate confidentially and formally in writing the faculty and the training program.

When averaged over four weeks, residents do not have the opportunity to spend at least one day out of seven free of patient care duties in the residency program.
